Anthony Rotolo is a leading expert in the areas of social media, emerging technologies and digital culture. Professor Rotolo is also Captain of the Starship NEXIS, a research laboratory that explores new and experimental fields such as Social Networking, Data Visualization, and 3D Printing.

Rotolo’s signature course, known by the hashtag #RotoloClass, has been called a “Twitter legend” for its unique use of real-time social media in the classroom. Rotolo himself has been dubbed the “Rocket Man” and the “The Star Trek Professor” for his #TrekClass, a unique course that examines the films and television series of Star Trek, including their relevance to today’s issues of science, technology and culture. TrekClass has been featured by CBS on StarTrek.com as a regular series of articles written by Professor Rotolo and his students.

In 2012, Rotolo created #ElectionClass to examine Social Media and the American Election as it unfolded in real time. In addition to an up-to-the-minute examination of the electoral process and media coverage, the course featured an election of its own. Student candidates waged their own campaigns for the Presidency in an unforgettable class experience. #ElectionClass was featured by the Today Show and other media.

In addition to his academic work, Rotolo is the Chief Operating Officer of Wonder Machines, Inc., which is developing its first consumer product to be announced later this year. He is also co-author of The Book on 3D Printing (Fall 2013) and Made in U.S.A. (projected release Spring 2014).

Professor Rotolo has given a number of public lectures, including invited talks at the United States Senate and NASA’s Johnson Space Center, as well as the South by Southwest Interactive Festival and the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas.
